All is well I am having a great time. All the girls are really nice. My roomate is Miss Korea, sweet girl. Today we had a photo shoot in our national costumes and bathing suit. Tomorow we have a lot planned. There is a press conference in our swimwear (very weird) but i think were gonna just pose for photo ops around in our swimwear (I am assuming,) After the press confrence, we have a welcome party cocktail party where we have to wear long formal gowns. I will keep you posted as the days go by and send more pictures.

The 2007 Miss International Beauty Pageant is currently taking place in Tokyo (Japan) from October 2nd to October 15th. 66 beauties from all over the world will try to win the coveted title currently held by Daniela Di Giacomo of Venezuela.

Miss International (officially titled The International Beauty Pageant) is the fourth largest beauty pageant in the world. It was created in Long Beach, California, USA in 1960 after the departure of the Miss Universe pageant to Miami Beach. Hosted in Long Beach until 1967, the pageant moved to Japan from 1968–1970, being hosted each year in the same city as the Japan Expo. For 1971 and 1972, it was held in Long Beach again, but since that time it has been held annually in Japan.
Also called a "Festival of Beauty" and even the "Olympics of Beauty", this pageant is not based on looks alone. Contestants are expected to serve as "Ambassadors of Peace and Beauty", showing tenderness, benevolence, friendship, beauty, intelligence, ability to take action, and, most importantly, a great international sensibility.
The ultimate goal of the Miss International beauty pageant is to promote world peace, goodwill, and understanding.

Luwip's Back to School Fun Fest

Every year, LUWIP host an annual back to school fun fest for families in the community. This is an event filled with food and lots of fun activities for the children and their families. But the highlight of the day is the school supplies giveaway. LUWIP ensures that every school age child at the funfest leaves with a school bag filled with school supplies (pencils, note books, crayons, sharpeners, erasers pens and paper) to help with the commencing the school year.

Liberian Pageants Exclusive interview with Miss Liberia in the US Mamawa Fofana

Mamawa briefly tell us about yourself?

I am a student at the University of Delaware and I am studying Mechanical Engineering. I enjoying dancing and it is one of my most passionate hobbies. My mother is one of the most influential people in my life, and she has instilled in me morals and strong ethical values.

Tell me about the competition? How did you relate to the other ladies?

The competition was very exciting. It was definately a once in a lifetime experience that I will hold close to my heart. I related to the other ladies in so many ways, we shared the same goal of working together to make this pageant one of LUWIP's most known and memorable pageants, and I believe we did so!! Also they were all very friendly and caring individuals, and we plan to keep in touch with each other through phone conversations and visits.

Briefly describe your pageant week experience?

The pageant week experience was new and intersting. We did a lot of traveling which was fun. We went from the Warwick Hotel, to the Hamptons, to the Sheraton Hotel in New York City to the Hampton Inn in Philadlphia!! We certainly enjoyed our Beauty Pageant Boot Camp and could say that we all successfully completed training to the highest degree. It was simply amazing!

What are some of the prizes you received along with the Miss Liberia in the US title?

I recieved a sash, crown, a scholarship cash prize, a laptop, and a Mary Kay gift basket.


What role has pageants played in your life?

The role pageants have played in my life is the fact that they have taught me to keep my head up high. When the going gets tough, keep moving forward. Some of the best things in life are worth fighting for, and you have to give it all you have so that you can prove to yourself that it is important and a significant matter in your life.

What has participating in the Miss Liberia in the US Pageant System done for you?

It has encouraged me to invite other people to get involved. Also it has stregnthened me as a Liberian women. It is something that I plan to be a part of in the future through volunteering efforts even after my reign.


What encouragement has your family given you to help you prepare for today?

My family has prayed for me as well as given me encouraging words of advice. They have kept in touch with me the whole process and have wished me well. The day of the pageant I was blessed and honor to have them there as well as close friends from my University, who very much are an integral part of my life as well.


What would you say is one of your greatest accomplishments up to date?

I would have to say that being crowned Miss Liberia in the U.S. is one of my greatest accomplishements up to date. And oh yeah being born!


What is your greatest passion?

My greatest passion is dancing. There is nothing better than enjoying what you do, and being able to entertain people in the process. Many people love to see me dance, and I am thankful that I am capable of sharing my talents with others.


Can you tell us about your educational background?

I attended P.S. 36 in the Bronx, NY, and then I went to middle school I.S. 174 in the Bronx, NY as well. I went to high school at Western Senior High School in Baltimore, MD, and graduated 4th in my class. And lastly I am a third year student at the University of Delaware studying Mechanical Engineering.


What has been the foundation of your sucesss?

The foundation of my sucess roots in my strong belief in God and having a wonderful mother by my side the whole way through. Also great siblings and beautiful friends.


What are your future plans?

My future plans right now are to continue to be a role model at home, at school, at my place of worship and mostly in the Liberian community. I plan on successfully completing my degree at Univeristy of Delaware and pursuing graduate school. I also want to start a non-profit organization that focuses on math and science programs, to increase the potential that exists in low income communities.

What are your plans as Miss Liberia in the US how do you plan to give back to community ?

My plans as Miss Liberia in the U.S. is to fufill my platform on educating our people on drug awareness and drug abuse and how it effects us as a whole entity. I plan to give back to the community through volunteering efforts and making my voice heard to help those in need.


What would you tell other young Liberian Women who are considering participating in their local state pageant ?

I would tell them to work hard, but to have fun. The pageant is a good way to meet new people and to learn about yourself as an individual. Definately do not get upset if things don't work out in your favor, simply because there are better things to come.

What message do you have for Liberians in the US?

The message I have for Liberians in the U.S. is thank you for believing in yourself as a people. We are beautiful both inside and out, and maintaing a sense of pride is more than an honor but a privelage. To be born of Liberian decent is an ongoing blessing for generations to come.

Forfana in conjunction with the Miss Liberia Maryland Organization will be hosting a Holiday Benefit Evening to help aid Liberian Orphans at the Mother Wleh Orphanage. The aiding of this orphange was the inispration from the work done by Cachelle's Promise. Cachelle's Promise is a humanitarian project founded by Shoana Clarke-Sayeh. Which provides basic necessities for the Mother Wleh orphange in Liberia. On one of her travels to Liberia, Shoana and her husband unoffically adopted the 45 children of the Mother Wleh orphanage. Over the past couple of years, she has shipped much needed supplies to the children. Miss Liberia in the US Mamawa Fofana along with continued support of the The Miss Liberia Maryland Organization plans to aid the Mother Wleh Orphange by putting together barrells of care packages be shipped to Liberia and will arrive at the turn of the new year

Adopting A Pageantry Code of Ethics System in African Pageantry.:

Since the sudden boom of Ethnic /African based pageants here in the United States. Many these pageants systems and the contestants as well as judges have complained of the lack of ethical practices shown during these events.

Many other pageants around the world have adopted some type of " Code of Ethics System by which their system abides by. The Code of Ethics systems help to protect Pageant Systems contestants judges and sponsors in from unjustified and fraudulent acts.

The EPIC International Association (Events, Pageants, and Individual Contestants) International Association) estsblished in 1986 took on the mission of eliminating unethical practices and promoting positive experiences with the industry. In doing so EPIC created the pageant industry’s first Code of Ethics and Rules of Censure.

Pageant Systems Directors, Contestants,Judges,Sponsors and Vendors join this Association with the promise to uphold their obligation to their contestants, sponsors and the general public to provide quality pageants with reasonable entry fees, under stated terms and conditions, to conduct business ethically and with integrity and to place contestant, sponsor and general public satisfaction foremost in their endeavors.

Once the pageant System or director has agreed to this Code of Ethics and signed its rules of censure, the Board of Directors designates a seal of Approved Director and Approved Pageant

Each Approved Director and Approved Pageant then obligated to the following:

Members advertising and promotional materials will accurately, honestly and clearly represent their pageant, services, gifts, and prizes as actually provided.

Members will accept responsibility for representations made on behalf of their pageant by employees or agents.

Members shall pay for all goods and services in a timely manner.

Members will make available the pageants rules, regulations, accurate and clearly understandable entry fees, terms and conditions to contestants, sponsors, and the general public.

Members will respond to contestant inquiries and complaints expeditiously and honestly, and will work in good faith to resolve contestant concerns to the contestant's satisfaction.

Members will always hold a judges orientation prior to the pageant and shall admonish judges to refrain from contact with contestants other than at scheduled pageant events.

Members will treat competitors with respect, refraining from making any disparaging comments, accusations, unfavorable implications or providing misleading information about a competitor's products and services.


Constestants as well can become Members of EPIC International
Once Approved contestants are then obligated to the following:

Members resumes, fact sheets and biographical information will accurately, honestly and clearly represent their true and actual background.

Members shall always act responsible and with pride when competing in an event or when representing a event as a title holder.

Members will follow all of the event rules, regulations and obey the terms and conditions set forth by the event in which they are competing.

Members will respond to their event directors inquiries and complaints expeditiously and honestly, and will work in good faith to resolve the event director's concerns to the director's satisfaction.

Members shall refrain from conversations and contact with judges other than at scheduled activities and shall ask their friends and relatives to refrain in the same manner.

In the Miss Liberia in the US Pageant System, there are guidelines as to qualites that State and National queens should posses and how they should conduct themselves during their reign.

Our queens should

Have an genuine concern for the role of women in society especially Liberian Women,

Be an ambassador and public relations representative of the Miss Liberia in the US Pageant System

Be attractive,poised talented with a confident comanding presence

Be an activiste on issue she considers important

Be an articulate communicator with the courage to defend her convictions

Be a leader by virtue of her integrity

One who takes person pride in her physical fitness and health.


These young women are role models to youth not only in the United States about around the world.

MARYLAND CAPTURES THE MISS LIBERIA IN THE US TITLE!!!

Miss Mamawa L. Fofana of Baltimore, Maryland captured the Miss Liberia in the US Title on Friday,July 27 2007 Thirteen young Liberian women from all across the US graced the stage of the Philadelphia Convention center to compete the coveted Miss Liberia in the US Crown!!!


At 7pm the hall of the convention center began to fill with VIP's, members of the press, family, freinds, and well wishers.
By 8pm, the pageant doors closed and the preliminary interviews began. After the interviews the doors were opened and the pageant was underway. The hall filled with excitement as 13 beautiful ladies from across the United States graced the stage, competing for prestigious Miss Liberia in the US title . It was definately a celebration of true Liberian beauty, style and intelligence.

The Queens included Victoria Wehjla of Rhode Island , Elenora Gbeh Peter of Virginia , Rosetta D. Reeves of Georgia, Mawata Fofana of Maryland and Rona Princess Remmie of Missouri . Others are Mawata Dunbar-Youboty of Pennsylvania , Patrice N. Njoh of Michigan , Aicha Cooper of Minnesota , Gwendolyn Mensah of North Carolina , Monique Verdelle Cooper of Oklahoma , Vera Lucille Kargbo of Delaware , Marveltha Mensah of New Jersey and Liamoh P. Thomas of California

The featured entertainer was none other than the Sierra Leone sensation Emerson!!! He totally had entire crowd on its feet as he preformed his lastest hit Tutu Party!!!

The queens were beautiful and incredibly fascinating and they displayed intelligence, grace, wit, and ambition, traits which attracted hundreds in the audience Friday night. The queens displayed their individual talents to the delight of the crowd. The talent competition this year was showcased various preformances such as, a pianst, saxaphonist, a broadway dancer, tradional Liberian cultral dancing, jazz contemporary dancing, engaging monolouges, and dynamic singers.

The contestants lit up the stage in some of the most beautiful and original their African attire and evening wear. They were also interviewed, in which the winner performed outstandingly. At the end of the evening, It was Miss Maryland Mamawa L Fofana won the title and received a scholarship check of $2,500, a dell laptop computer and boat load of other prizes.Special Awards Miss North Carolina swept the Miss Photogenic, Class and Style as well as the 2007 LUWIP Commericial Award, Miss Pennsylania received the Miss Congentiality award and the 2007 Edith Bargor Award went to Rona Princess Remmie of Missouri.
