HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY!!! THE MISS LIBERIA IN THE US PAGEANT IS NOW IN SESSION

Thirteen contestants came from all around the US on Friday July 19th and met the Warick Hotel in Downtown Manhattan for the begining of the Miss Liberia in the US Pageant activties.

Friday
When the contestants arrived, they were greeted by sponsor MacDella Cooper who hosted the constestants for the entire week during their stay in New York. Ms. Cooper presented the contestants with welcome bags which included a book by actress Victoria _____ from the Young and the Restless and cosmetics from Estee Lauder.
During Ms. Cooper talk to contestants she encouraged them to enjoy themselves during their stay.

After their meet and greet session, contestant had a heart to heart session where they got to know more of each other and had a slumber party. Where the contestant spend the rest of the evening laughing and joking a fell off to sleep in the wee hours of the Morning

Saturday
After breakfast the ladies packed up to spend the rest of the weekend in the Hamptons. The ladies stayed in the most exquiste 10 bedroom contemporary summer home with and miraculous backyard waterfall swimming pool. They were completely spoiled during their stay. Miss Kathy provided all the contestants with menu of healthy fresh cusine. Omelette made to order,bagels lox lots an lots of fruits, pasta salads tossed in wonderful tasting vinagrette,steak cooked to order,barbqcue chicken. The ladies automatically fell in love with Miss Kathy and Miss Kathy made 13 new freinds.
at night the ladies visited alocal nightclub in the Hamptons the ladies danced the night away to wee hours of the morning.

Sunday
The following the morning the Ladies got ready for rehearsal boot camp they ladies spent most of the morning and into the afternoon practicing their group preformance afternoon lunch and some much needed downtime. They set out tour the Hamptons shopping district and then it was back off to the city!!!
2hrs later we arrived at the Sheration NY on 42st in Times Square. After the contestants checked in,they immediately went for a night tour Times Square as they toured Times square they were greeted and took photo ops native New Yorkers throughtout the entire evening.

Monday
The Constantants were invited to stay in a New Penthouse Apartment on the corner of 72nd and Central Park West. This area is the home for many famous celebrites such as Howard Stern, Chris Rock. The Penthouse was located right accross the buliding from the John Lennon building. Upon arrival to the Penthouse the contestants their platform recordings and prepared to attend the Regis and Kathy show and their visit to the UN.

Tuesday
The Ladies woke up at 5am in the Morning to attend the taping of the Regis and Kathy show. Much to all of our suprized we saw Regis Philban walking to work accompanied by his bodyguard again to everyones amazement Regis walk right up to the contestant and greeted each and every one of them the ladies shook hands and gave warm hugs and stayed to do a photo op. He then went off to tape the show which was featuring no other that Academy and Golden Globe award winner Jennifer Hudson After the taping of the show, Regis once again met with the Ladies in the Lobby of the hotel and this time introduced us to Gilman. Regis then instructed his staff to do special taping of Promoting the Miss Liberia in the US Pageant. Which will air on Friday July 27th on ABC at 9am Eastern.
After the taping the ladies returned to the penthouse where they preprared for there visit to the UN Mission.

The Ladies arrived at the UN Liberian Mission Office where they were greeted by the Liberian UN Amabassador and his wife. The UN Ambassador congratulated the ladies and talked to them about the current situation in Liberia and how each and every one can do their part to part to help. He then challenged the ladies to help in the development in Liberia's youth by strongly promoting education. The ladies also had a time to ask the UN Ambassador many questions about Liberia's Welfare from the TRC to feeding Liberia's children. The experience was very touching for me and it will be something that I will never forget.

Wednesday

The ladies set out for the city of brotherly love Philadelphia PA where they were recevied by the ladies of LUWIP "The Liberian United Women in Progress". Upon their arrival they attended a welcome at The famous Phillips seafood. Members of the press were attended the event. The ladies sat down to a scrumptious seafood cocktail reception and many photo ops were taken

Thursday

The Ladies were invited on the Sprit of Philadelphia for a lunch cruise. The contestants had a blast as they were entertained by the ship's crew dancers and singers. Later on they took to the dance floor and danced until ship redocked at Penns Landing.

Friday

I am currently updating this report at 6:05 am. At this time the contestants are currently waking up to have breakfast and to attend their final rehearsal

PAGEANT HIGHLIGHTS
The house was" packed", well attended. Miss Rosetta D.Reeves came out the winner after a night of no telling . It was a tough competition, no one could really tell through out the night. Even to the last minute.
Some of our judges, a chemist, a model management Owner (bescoutednow.com), The owner of Miss Teen Africa USA, and the cof-ounder of Soweto Street Beat were some of our prestigous judges in the house. The judges definately had the hardest job of the evening, because all of the young ladies were all great!!!

Miss Sakon Wilson took 1st place, and Miss Nykita Garnett 2nd place. Other awards given to the other contestants was was Miss photogenic, Miss personality, and Miss cogneniality.

Miss Ghana USA assisted with Western Union in giving the scholarship prize.

Miss Celi Dean crowns her sucessor Miss Black USA Tennesee at the Black USA Pageant held in The Gambia West Africa.

I was in the in audience when Miss Dean won the Miss Black USA title in 2005. I was was then writing an article for then My Ezine Black Gem World. I had no idea that this young lady from Minnesota had Liberian roots until the talent competition where she gave a captivating monolouge about her heritage and her roots. The message that she was giving that evening was just fitting " not to make judgement of someone by their outward apperance."

Two years later she and 36 other delegates traveled to The Gambia West Africa to compete for the Miss Black USA Title. This is the first time the Miss Black USA has ever competed on the African Continent.

What is so unique about this event is that 2 of our past Miss Liberia in the US state queens went to the Gambia to compete in this competition. Miss Telena Cassell Former Miss Liberia California and Miss Wokie Daboh Former Miss Liberia Minnesota.

We are so proud of you!!!

Miss Africa Pageant 2007, was held on Saturday, June 9, 2007 at Florida Memorial University located at 15800 N.W. 42nd Ave in Miami, Florida.

The Miss Africa Pageant helps prepare young African and African American women for a better future. The pageant and its focus on continuing education expose the young ladies to positive attitudes, values, beliefs, and global perspectives that will help expand their critical thinking skills as well as their ability to become more responsible adults. One of the pageant’s main goals is to encourage, and hopefully compel, these young women to make an impact on their communities by helping others and enabling Africa to become more unified and viable.

It seems that all across the country, young Africian and other ethnic women take the stage, smiling for judges, hoping to be the next beauty pageant winner. Many parents and daughters spend a lot of time effort and money on pageants hoping that their child will become the next supermodel or a famous movie star. The truth is that few are discovered that way.

Before entering into a beauty pageant, parents and contestants should consider the following questions:
How long has the company been operating pageants? Who are the directors? Usually pageants are operated by for-profit organizations that solicit participants by mail or print advertising, or by broadcast media, to compete for recognition and prizes from the promoter.
What is the total cost of pageant participation for both the entrant and the chaperone? Oftentimes, family or business sponsors are asked to pay a sponsorship fee, which can vary, to the pageant promoter to cover hotel rental fees, awards, administrative costs, salary for company personnel and company profits.
Can the location (place of business) of the pageant company be verified? Where and when will the actual pageant be held? What accommodations are provided for contestants? Will there be adequate supervision?
Who are the judges and what are their qualifications? Do they have any affiliation with the company?
Are refunds possible if a contestant decides to withdraw from the pageant?
How are the winners chosen? What criteria are used for selection?
What are the obligations of the winning contestant?
What do former contestants and winners have to say about the pageant? Ask the company for references.
Finally, what benefit will be derived from participating or winning?
If you're approached by a pageant company, do your reasearch first,Be sure to read any contract carefully and thoroughly in advance of entering a pageant to understand rights and responsibilities of the winner.

On Sunday May 27th The Ballroom of the Marriott Courtyard Washingtonian Center was filled to capacity with family, friends, and well wishers as the lights dimmed and 2007 Miss Liberia Maryland Pageant was underway.

The pageant weekend offically on Saturday afternoon. The contestants and past Maryland queens arrived at beautiful Marriott Courtyard Hotel overlooking the the water and a 2 mile boardwalk. After they checked into the hotel, the queens and finalists sat down to a brief orientation with the lobby and got settled into their rooms. Next it was on to have a fun filled afternoon on the boardwalk and do an informal photoshoot.

Liberian Pageants attends the 1st Women's Vision for Progress Miss Liberia New Jersey Scholarship Pageant!!!

Newark, NJ, May 12, 2007 - Women’s Vision for Progress presented its 1st Annual Miss Liberia New Jersey Scholarship Pageant on the beautiful evening of May 12, at The Paul Robeson Center on the campus of Rutgers University. The event was certainly a place of elegance, beauty and culture. Pageantry was seen at its best.

19year-old Marketing and Business Management student, Marlvelthe Mensah was the night’s winner gleaming in her crowning moment as Miss Liberia New Jersey. She wowed the audience in stunning outfits in a pink African gown, contour Swimsuit and a talent performance that moved the audience to its feet.

The hall was filled with well wishers, family, friends and VIP royalty, which included: The reigning Miss Liberia in the US Miss Ro Pauline K Doe, Mrs. Edith Wilson, President of Liberian United Women in Progress, Celebrity Host and Executive Producer of the cable TV show "Imagine That" Ms Robin Richie and Mr. Edinam Oton of The African Magazine. The hall was set in an elegant dinner reception style. As guest arrived, they helped them themselves to a dinner buffet and mingled while waiting for the show to begin. The Master of the ceremonies was none other than Rev. Charles Levi Martin who kept the audience entertained and engaged as the contestants came out one by one during the African Wear, Swimwear, Talent, and Evening Wear competition.

The night’s entertainment was phenomenal!!!

The African dance troupe Fusion give an opening performance that mesmerized the audience as they delivered an excellent cultural dance performance. Other performances included Liberia’s own “Lucky Shango” and Solo R&B Artist Jodi.

At these events, I often come in contact with young Liberian girls who are inspired to become positive role models to their peers. One such girl is 7year old Miss Martin who competed in the Miss American Coed Pageants and won in her division.

Miss Nundiah Edwards, a double major senior from Berkely College took the title of 1st Runner-up.

Miss Josephine Manu, a Nursing major received the title of 2nd Runner-up.

Liberian Pageants wishes Miss Mensah the best of luck at the 2007 Nationals in Philadelphia.

Women’s Vision for Progress is a not for-profit, community-based organization headquartered in Newark, New Jersey. Their mission is to provide educational, charitable, and cultural programs of benefit to New Jersey youth in grades (K-12). They raise funds to provide educational scholarships, humanitarian services and cultural event sponsorship from businesses, public agencies, foundations, philantropists and individuals to meet their goals. WVFP is founded by Mrs. Kim Bowman-Trinity.
