On Thursday Dec 13 2007, Miss Liberia Maryland Ambassador Tonia Kamara attended the 5th annual Sullivan Awards Dinner held at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel in Washington DC.
The event was held in honor of his excellency the President of Tananzia for his work and contributions to the foundation.
The foundations mission is to carry on the spirit and legacy of Reverend Leon H. Sullivan, the great African-American international humanitarian.The Leon H. Sullivan Foundation leverage's the commitments and resources of the African Diaspora and friends of Africa to promote positive change in the world. Our work is guided by the principles that Reverend Sullivan championed: self-help, social responsibility, economic empowerment, and human rights. To that end the Foundation advocates on relevant domestic and international issues; supports the work of the Sullivan organizations, and provides a platform for Africa’s political, economic, and, cultural leaders.
The room was filled with African as well as African American celebrities as well as a slew of African American political leaders . Those who spoke that evening included Andrew Young and Jesse Jackson the entertainment for the evening was non other than commedian and actor Chris Tucker as well as Boys to Men who had just flew in from Paris to attend the event.
The Leon H. Sullivan Summits bring together the world’s political and business leaders, delegates representing national and international civil and multinational organizations, and members of academic institutions in order to focus attention and resources on Africa’s economic and social development. Their mission was inspired by Rev. Leon H. Sullivan’s belief that the development of Africa is a matter of global partnerships. It was particularly important to Rev. Sullivan that Africa’s Diaspora and Friends of Africa are active participants in Africa’s development.

She expressed her greatfulness to be able to be able to attend such a grand event and see the genuine effort African Americans have towards the growth and developement of not only Liberia but Africa as a continent .
After the preformance Chris Tucker and Rev.Jesse Jackson come on onstage with Boys to Men to congratulate them for a spectacular show and for promotional photos.
